With one phone call, I can make you thousands of dollars. I can do it with three words. It takes about four seconds.
I know I can do it because I’ve done it over and over again. I’m 100% certain that it works.
I have the data to support my success with this approach.
When some lawyers act on these words, they increase their income by a few thousand dollars. Other lawyers have taken this advice and increased their income by hundreds of thousands of dollars.
My editor (she’s a lawyer who, by now, has read this post and tweaked it for us) took my advice. She’s earning more now. There are many, many others who have done the same and benefited as much or more.
What do you do with the extra money? How about:
- Taking a much-deserved vacation?
- Saving something for retirement?
- Putting money away for the kids’ education?
- Buying something special?
- Investing in staff training?
- Building business infrastructure like systems and processes?
Now, we all know that you’ll put up a fight when you hear my words. You’ll resist. You’ll explain why it’s not possible and why it won’t work for you. I get it. Change is hard, and lawyers are among the most change-resistant people on the planet.
Then, even as you soften your position, you’ll delay. You’ll ponder and consider. You’ll commit to do it later.
Yep, making this change might cause the earth to stop rotating or something. I get it. But maybe that’s just your difficulty with adjusting to something different? Maybe it’s your difficulty with acknowledging your worth?
Or…could it be that all the lawyers who have followed my advice and increased their incomes make a good argument for why this change will work for you?
What’s the advice? What are the three words? What should you do?
Raise your price.
Raise it by a little, or raise it by a lot. It’s been forever since you last raised it. It’s time.
But, but, but…
- Some of my clients will leave. Not many.
- My referral sources will freak out. No, they won’t.
- The competition will get the business. Not likely.
- I can’t get them to pay what I’m charging now. Some do.
Stop worrying. Let go of your negative response. Raise your price.
Raise your price by $10 per hour and see an increase in income of at least $10,000 a year. Raise your price by $50 per hour and see an increase of $100,000 a year in many practices. Raise your flat fee by 5% and see an increase of even more.
What are you waiting for? Why are you arguing with me? I’ve told you that it works. I’ve watched it over and over, and I’ve had to fight with nearly every lawyer I’ve told.
They resist. I rant. They give it a try. It works. They tell me—and I love this part—that I was right.
Raise your price.
