Getting Double Duty out of Your Newsletter or Blog

Do you have a family law newsletter or blog? I don’t, but I think they are terrific marketing tactics for many practices. If you’re doing it and it’s working, keep doing it.

Here’s a tip that might be of use to you:

Use your blog or newsletter to promote your referral sources. Pump them up in your articles, show them in your pictures, mention their awards and accomplishments, and generally do everything you can to promote them.

Why?

Because they are good to you, and you should be good to them. They are your best friends: treat them like it.

Your generosity will help them build their businesses, which helps them refer to you. Your generosity affirms your appreciation for their help: it’s a “showing them” thing, which is much more powerful than a “telling them” thing. As they grow, you will grow. When they promote their businesses, they’ll remember to promote yours. It’s all win-win.

Be sure you tell your referral sources what you’re doing. If it’s a newsletter, send them copies—even extra copies—of your articles so they can use them to promote themselves. If it’s a blog, be sure to send them a link. Make sure they know you’d like to promote their accomplishments so they’ll keep you in the loop when something happens.

Your blog or newsletter can achieve a great deal for your practice. With some thought and effort, it can do even more.
